Final fight streetwise 25/23/2023 More than one of the editors here at GameSpy HQ complained of feeling just a tad queasy after playing for a few minutes. When you begin fighting your way through some of the game's indoor environments, like the hotel, you may even become nauseated by the disorientation you'll experience as the camera struggles to keep up. It was mildly amusing the first time I noticed that stepping in and out of a door would drop the camera to below Kyle's crotch, giving me a humorous view, but it really went downhill from there. Final Fight: Streetwise's camera fails to step up and is particularly bothersome. It's difficult to get the camera working properly in a third-person action game, and those games that get it right are so much the better for it. His delivery is gravelly and too tough for its own good, as if he were trying to channel Solid Snake's personality into the game, although it just comes off as sleazy. The voice clips are completely laughable as well, particularly how Kyle always says "Cash!" or "Money!" after picking up a poor slob's gold tooth or chain. There are some tracks that are passable, but as the game only starts you off with a handful of songs, hearing them repeatedly will grate on the ear, so that by the time new songs are available, you may have already lost your last nerve. You'd think that you couldn't go wrong with audio tracks ranging from dirty south Crunk to Death Metal, although in this case you'd be wrong. If you're a fan of profanity for profanity's sake, you may have a giggle or two. To its credit, Final Fight: Streetwise pushes the envelope as far as language, both in-game and on the soundtrack. To preface this assessment of the game's hackneyed storyline with spoiler warnings would be an insult to a reader's intelligence, but simply put, you'll not find anything here you haven't seen in a dozen other games. Here you have the classic anti-hero on a quest to save his brother from himself, aided by a tough as nails, yet beautiful woman. You have to hand the game some credit for at least trying to piece together a gritty street drama, with a variety of players taking on contrived roles and a story that was slapped together with scenes straight out of the dreaded cliché compendium. You'll need a strong ability to suspend disbelief to really attain any sense of immersion. When they do smash open correctly, the floor is instead littered with flat 2D pages, which in some abstract sense could be seen as having been a stack of papers. I would kick open newsstands, and quite often they would simply disappear behind a wall. I would very often flail my arms out and fail to grab my opponents, or even have trouble picking items up off the ground. On the other hand, the collision detection is poor, detracting from what could have been a somewhat satisfying brawler. Good defensive technique allows for some nifty slow-motion moves that are particularly painful looking, and the use of the game's Instinct mode, functioning as a draining super-meter, can at times be fun. The fighting is very basic, with strong and light attacks that can be trained to result in a variety of combos. The textures are bland, and no matter how gritty the real life 'hood' can be, reality just isn't this ugly. Following in big brother's footsteps, Kyle knocks out teeth and bashes skulls in the underground fight club scene and spends his evenings drinking away the pain of living in the 'hood.' The 'hood,' as Capcom depicts it, is a place where effeminate men with a pronounced lisp offer thinly veiled compliments to every tough guy on the street, and where overweight British streetwalkers are always curious as to whether you would "fancy a shag." To say that Final Fight: Streetwise's depiction of inner city life is offensive would be appropriate, although this assessment also holds true for the game's controls, graphics, and sound.įinal Fight: Streetwise's character models are very basic, and the entire game has a very drab feel to it. The game's single player story mode puts you in the role of Kyle Travers, brother of Cody from the original game. Final Fight: Streetwise, on the other hand, is perhaps the best argument one could make against remaking arcade classics. I remember spending rolls of quarters at my local arcade, loving every moment of Metro City Mayor Mike Haggar beating down the Mad Gears gang. Final Fight is one of those great coin-op games from Capcom's past that should be locked away and treasured forever.

But, according to the founders, the products work best when they follow one another.Dr. But since I'm spending most of my time indoors these days, a few extra seconds of blending is no big thing.Įach product is sold individually, and although you can mix and match with other products, the lines are especially helpful for skin-care newbies or people who just want their routine sorted. It's a perfectly functional mineral sunscreen, but the bottle is a bit small for the price, and it takes a thorough rub to get rid of the chalky, white cast. I found it best to make my morning tea and let it soak in before layering up with Daily Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($40). The texture is rich without being gloopy or impossible to rub in like some other "rescue"-oriented moisturizers. It's formulated with ingredients you'll recognize from eczema-fighting products, like colloidal oatmeal (to relieve itch and dryness) and ceramides (to rebuild the skin barrier). Third, and, of particular note for those with eczema and atopic dermatitis, is the Moisturizing Rescue Cream ($60). The formula includes allantoin, known for its wound-healing and moisturizing benefits, he explains, while dimethicone is "one of the most effective moisturizing and skin-protectant agents found in beauty products today," working to increase skin softness and elasticity while locking in moisture. According to David Petrillo, a cosmetic chemist and a skin-care brand founder himself, the ingredients seem to have a strong focus on calming and protecting sensitive skin types. I typically opt for a serum as the second step in my routine, but instead, the treatment is a light lotion that sunk immediately into skin. Next up is the Sensitive Skin Treatment ($90), which felt to me like the most unique product in the line. If you're wearing a full face of makeup, I'd recommend it as the second step in a double-cleansing routine for me, it worked well to remove a light layer of concealer. I'm already a fan of gel-texture skin care, and this provided a lot of slip and a gentle cleanse. Testing on my own acne- and rosacea-prone skin, I found myself most excited to reach for the Soothe Calming Gel Cleanser ($45). He also confirms that, although prescription medications can be needed to treat severe skin conditions, "there are instances in which over-the-counter skin care is enough to treat minor flares."

Full moom february 20215/22/2023 ET, Farmer’s Almanac says - noting how skygazers should look for the spectacularly bright moon as it rises above the horizon that evening. The moon will reach peak illumination at 3:20 a.m. March’s full "worm moon" will arrive on March 18. The Dakota also call this the r accoon moon, certain Algonquin peoples named it the g roundhog moon, and the Haida named it g oose moon, Farmer’s Almanac says. Other names for February’s full moon have included the bald eagle moon or eagle moon, traditionally referred to as this by the Cree. "In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver, who had visited with the Naudowessie (Dakota), wrote that the name used for this period was the Snow Moon, because more snow commonly falls during this month than any other in the winter,‘" the Farmer’s Almanac says. The full moon names come from a number of places, including Native American, Colonial American and European sources, the Farmer’s Almanac says.įebruary’s full moon name is known as the snow moon due to the typically heavy snowfall that happens in February - noting how the month is the country’s snowiest. 27, 2021 (Photo by Nicolas Economou/NurPhoto via Getty Images) February’s full moon 2022: Why is it called the snow moon? Choose the representation of the moon that most speaks to you, and use guided meditations on BetterSleep to get started.FILE - Snow Moon of February 2021. Meditating on the full moon is a great opportunity to harness the energy of this time of the month. It’s a time to celebrate new beginnings, another good theme for meditation. In China, the February full moon is the culmination of the Lunar New Year. The Hopi tribes of the southwest celebrate the second full moon as a time of renewal and purification, ideal themes for a full moon meditation. The cold regions of North America celebrate the snow moon and the hunger moon, but warmer areas have different ideas. On an empty stomach, use that energy in your meditation instead. With food in your stomach, the digestive system requires energy. Many practitioners also believe that a fasted meditation heightens your awareness. Try meditating on an empty stomach to appreciate the scarcity that others feel and to show appreciation for what you have. The connection to scarcity may be an excellent opportunity to try a fasted meditation. While the snow continues to accumulate, new life is starting. The start of spring is when animals are born. With its connection to snow and animals, use the snow moon to meditate on new beginnings. The full moon meditation may provide certain benefits, including an enhanced spiritual experience, greater energy, a greater sense of being purified through the process, a stronger way to manifest your intentions, and a way to set new intentions and goals. Full moon meditations are useful for harnessing extra energy and reflecting on the culmination of a goal, an intention, a project, or New Year’s resolutions. The New Moon is earlier in the month on Thursday, February 11th. You can choose the moon name that speaks to you most at this time of year, but the snow moon is the most common representation for February. February 2021 Moon Details The Full Moon for this month will occur later in the month on Saturday, February 27th. These additional names may reflect animals seen this time of year, and of course, the hunger and bony moon names indicate that food can be scarce at the end of winter. Other names for the February moon in Native cultures include the bony moon, the hunger moon, the storm moon, the eagle moon, the bear moon, and the raccoon moon. This, of course, reflects the weather conditions in much of North America and is a name used by Native Americans and early colonists. The second full moon of the year is called the snow moon. Many cultures have names for the full moons. Use the energy and spirituality of the moon to restart any goals you’ve neglected. It’s an ideal opportunity to meditate on the realization of your New Year’s resolutions. February’s full moon arrives on the 27th of this year, the second to last day of the month. A full moon is full of energy, and by meditating on it, you can harness that energy. The full moon is a time to reflect on accomplishments and the fulfillment of previously set goals.

Morse decoder app from screen5/22/2023 The app can’t compensate.Īnything else could be hard to copy. I previously used the term “Garbage in = Garbage out” A good CW operator can copy code by ear and can compensate for slight errors. This would mean either a really good fist sending the code or a computer Keyer. Remember that the APP copies “well sent “CW. Fine tune for the one you want to hear the most and go with it. T he same would apply to the CW Ragchews.Īt this point I should mention that in most cases although you should be able to hear both parts of the QSO you might not be able to decode both parts. If the participants were using a keyer it would be easier and if they are using a key then… hopefully you will get enough out to figure things out. Doable but it does test your tuning ability. I was able to copy the traffic being passed, then had to re tune to hear the NCS and then retune to hear a different station passing traffic. The same went for the NTS Traffic Nets on CW. The DXPedition I was able to hear was sending Computer generated code at a rather fast speed for short transmissions (VA3QV 5nn TU) which took longer to tune in, Once tuned in was no problems. I was able to copy enough to know what was happening and hear the exchange but it took a while longer to get the tuning to cooperate with the app. The activations were done in a portable situation, often at lower power levels and also more than often CW sent by hand. The Activations and the DXPeditions I listened to were a bit harder to copy. I was able to listen along to a few CWT sprints (mini contests) and as most of their operators have a good fist (send real good CW by hand) I very little problems copying and even participating using the built in contest keyer in my Yaesu FT 950/ If you are using the audio connection (1st or 2nd option) you might have a slight issue copying in a noisy envirioment. I chose the first option for me and so far no issues.Įvery night I was able to copy the ARRL Bulletins and Code Practice (all sent in CW) with no problems. This elimates the external noise but you might have troubles hearing the pitch of the CW during the tuning process Third way is to use a double male stereo cable and plug directly from the output on the receiver to the input on the IPad. This is an audio link (almost same as above) but you get more sound into your IPad. The next way is the put the boom mic of your headphones across the speaker of the reciever and then plug the head set into the IPad. Quickest way is just keep your IPad close to the recievers speaker and use the built in mic on the IPad. This can be done easily using one of the following ways. You need a stable connection between the speaker on your receiver and the IPad or IPhone. “RTFM” comes to mind here as it will make it so much easier.Ĭopying the ARRL Bulletins and Code Practice that is available over the air.Ĭopying some CW Contests that I found on the airĬopying DXPeditions and POTA/SOTA activations that were operating CWīefore I touch on the results. I strongly recommend that before you use this app you take a few minutes to remind yourself how to fine tune CW signals on the receiver you plan to be using. The HotPaws Morse Code decoder app has been with me for a week now and heres my honest unsolicited opinion of this Apple IPad/IPhone app If you refer to my previous blog post you will find the background info on what I am now posting on.

Nexomon extinction tyrant of light5/22/2023 I don’t know exactly why that is, maybe because of the modern graphics and the lack of a normal directional pad on the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons. It is done in many games this way (and certainly the Pokémon games it’s based on), but somehow it feels outdated in this game. Nexomon: Extinction is a grid based game so it’s only logical that your character can only move in four directions. Of course, you’ll encounter some inaccessible areas here and there, but knowing you can return there later when you’ve required the appropriate powers only adds to the fun. You can ignore the story and explore every corner of the map without anyone telling you what to do. The main story goes to the right put nothing forces you to go that way. Right from the start of the game, you can choose whichever way you want to go. Nexomon: Extinction truly has an open world. So far the Pokémon basics, here come the twists. There are more than 300 Nexomon so “gotta catch ‘m all” also applies here. Each Nexomon has a max of 4 moves, has elemental advantages and disadvantages and some evolve at a certain level. Your Nexomon gain experience and level up by battling in turn based battles against wild Nexomon and other Nexomon Tamers. You walk through patches of grass to randomly encounter wild Nexomon of various elements (fire, water, etc.) which you can catch with a Nexotrap (which is pyramid shaped, but has the same colors as a Pokéball) and add to your team of max 6 Nexomon. The basics are copied straight from the Pokémon games. I made a screenshot of one of these moments. Your cat companion will then reply that this game is really messed up. At the very start of the game you encounter an NPC which explains the basics of Nexomon battles: “You let Nexomon beat each other unconscious, then you heal them and do it again.”. This game is drenched with this kind of humor (which certainly made me chuckle a few times). So every time your character does that, your cat comrade and other NPCs in the vicinity will ask you to please stop doing that.Īnd this is only the tip of the iceberg. This is normal for us gamers, but imagine it when someone does that in real life. When you receive an item or achievement, your character will make a 360 rotation before holding the acquired item in the air. This is where the developers’ sarcastic humor begins as they love making fun of the more traditional game mechanics. You are always accompanied by a talking cat (possible reference to Meowth?) because your character never speaks (which does not goes unnoted by other NPCs). You choose your first Nexomon (from 9 options instead of 3) and you set out for your journey with a group of fellow Tamers. That’s something else than becoming a Pokémon master… The king has been slayed leaving the other Nexomon in disarray and in search of a new king. The war was about a Nexomon king, a Nexomon himself called a Tyrant, trying to destroy the human race. The Guild of Tamers try to maintain the peace in a post-war world. You’re living in an orphanage and this is the day you become a Tamer (read: Pokémon trainer) for the Guild of Tamers. You choose a name and character (there’s quite some choice) and you’re good to go. Even after finishing the game, I still don’t know what that’s about. The game starts with a vague opening scene where you fall off a flying airship. Also, I’m not really into turn based gameplay anymore so that doesn’t help either.īut after reading the positive reviews and watching some gameplay videos, I decided to give it a go. The art style seemed a bit childish to me and maybe even a bit cheap, like it was some sort of mobile port. When I saw Nexomon: Extinction for the first time, I was a bit sceptic. The latest Switch entry Pokémon Sword sits unfinished in my Nintendo Switch case and while I did beat the elite four in Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu, it did not really scratch that Pokémon itch. Nowadays, however, the Pokémon games have lost a bit of their shine. As you might have read in my Pokémon GO blog, I’m a big fan of the Pokémon franchise.

Spelltower free online5/21/2023 In SpellTower however, there’s no guarantee on what pattern they’ll follow. Normally, the words are arranged either horizontally or vertically, read forwards or backward. One challenging thing players need to get ready for is that it isn’t like your typical word search. Your goal is to quickly locate words hidden within the mix and prevent the word bank from reaching the top. In Zach Gage’s SpellTower, players find themselves face to face with a word bank that first starts off as few in number, but soon enough, it begins filling up with more and more letters. It’s like the love child between Tetris and word search. It’s perfect for learning new words and really racking up your brain, especially when you’re down to the last blank space and every combination just doesn’t seem to work! The app also offers players aesthetically pleasing backgrounds, dynamic gameplay, and multiple levels with varying degrees of difficulty– truly a game worth your time. The number of letters given could range anywhere from four, to even six, which really ramps up the difficulty. In the game, players are shown a Crossword-like setup minus the clues instead, they’re given a mix of letters and are expected to look for word combinations and fill out all the blank spaces. Wordscapes is a free downloadable mobile game that’s reminiscent of Crossword. Now here’s a game that you might’ve seen on the internet before. There are also many free alternatives with the same concept, so you’re free to choose which one suits your taste more. In addition, the app is free and is downloadable regardless of what mobile device you use. It’s a very straightforward game and can be a great way to pass the time. Providing players with two seemingly unrelated photos, and a random mix of letters, Pictoword challenges its players to guess the word based on the hints alone. With these many choices, there’s definitely something for everyone.Īnd because this game has retained so much popularity since its launch, there are various different apps and sources where you can enjoy this game, making it accessible to nearly everyone. Such variations can range from solving two at a time with only one set of clues to solving anagrams and even number-coded ones. With the many variations that exist today, there’s always going to be something new for you to try. It’s a great way to improve your critical thinking skills while learning a thing or two about different terminologies and trivial facts. Going as far back as 1913, Crossword still remains a crowd favorite. If you like playing this game, also check out some tips on playing wordle or use an online wordle solver if you want to cheat a little. This game definitely provides its players with a sense of excitement, suspense, and sometimes even frustration as you’re left to think: “That word exists?!” It’s a great starter game to get into since the instructions are easy, there are no difficulty levels, and you only get one word per day– fewer words, less stress, usually. But while most guessing games out there provide their players with a theme or a hint, Wordle does none of that. Its entire premise is for the players to guess what the five-letter “word of the day” is. Of course, you can’t talk about the rising popularity of word games without mentioning the one game that took 2022 by storm– Wordle.Ĭreated by software engineer Josh Wardle for his beloved wife, Wordle is a free online game and has quickly become a worldwide trend with more or less 300,000 people playing this game daily. If you ever find yourself looking to learn a new word or two, then give these popular word games of 2022 a try! 1.

Garfield kart furious racing gameplay5/21/2023 Even then, were we thespians, using our own talents as fulcra against which to shift the weight of GKFR’s genius? Or just a pantomime mob, amplifying every emotional peak and trough with our animal passion and noise? At times over the four days of the review period (during which, I think, I spent all of 20 hours away from my gaming chair), both felt true. Our PCs were the stage, and our mouse clicks were the words of power, affecting the will of Garfield Kart Furious Racing in its desire to be told to the world. The text of a play is a spell: an invocation of power, but one which cannot take full effect until imbued with physicality by performers on a stage. For if physics is one way to codify the business of magic, then theatre is another. I will do so only in the archaic, theatrical sense of the word. Just as I am loathe to call Garfield Kart Furious Racing a ‘game’, so too am I unhappy to call us ‘players’. And indeed, it was not: 3am arrived, the code was activated, and the players began to race.īefore we get into the thick of it, however, one more short note on terminology. But if Garfield Kart Furious Racing says anything unambiguously, it’s that the clock can never be stopped. It would require us, like the mass of cells teeming in a growing zygote, to transcribe genotype into phenotype.Īnd we were ready: a legion of us, fingertips crackling above our keyboards with the electricity of anticipation, as we awaited the crucial hour. Less of a game, then, and more of a gamete - at least for that moment. To think now, that all the genius, all the singular agony of the work, was condensed into just a few million lines of alphanumeric shorthand, is as hard to comprehend as the information required to build a human being archived in the chemical broth at the heart of a cell. Only when this art was sullied with our own digital hands, could it be real. Only when that box was opened, could we know if the cat was Garfield. A sealed box, if you will, containing a cat. In the early hours of last Tuesday, as I and a thousand others waited for the 3am activation of our review copies, GKFR existed entirely in potentia: a few million lines of code, disembodied on some server in Northern California, waiting to be defined through our shared experience. According to the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics, by observing a phenomenon, we cannot help but change it - and never has this been more true than in the case of Garfield Kart Furious Racing. Could we call it a text, perhaps? Possibly - but one that can only be considered complete in the act of its being engaged with. It’s heartbreaking, really, to resort to a term so crude as “game” to describe Garfield Kart Furious Racing. And indeed, in writing as a critic, I expand the work yet further. In a sense, then, I am reviewing my own work - for in engaging with GKFR, I became one of its authors. Because GKFR, you see, is a collaborative effort - directed, certainly, by its developers at Artefacts Studio, but only comprehensible as an ever-changing consensus between the game itself, its players, and its critics. In the plainest terms, I would say I participated in it: I offered my own myopic contribution, alongside millions of others, to form the baroque gestalt of the work as a whole. I cannot say, in truth, that I played Garfield Kart Furious Racing.

Hex fiend for mac5/21/2023 Start here for a quick intro.įor Hex editing specifically, I find the native hexdump and xxd utilities sufficient for my needs, but Hex Fiend is a useful GUI alternative. Vi can have a steep learning curve, but it will pay you back in spades. We use xxd‘s -r switch to revert the hex dump back to binary format. The % character ensures that the command is applied to the contents of the file, while the ! is used to call the external command line utility xxd. For example, if you open a binary file in Vi, you can dump it to hex without leaving the editor by issuing the commandĪfter making your edits, revert back to binary before saving: Because it includes a command line interface, you can call shell commands within (and on) your current editing session, which is extremely useful. Vi is a multi-purpose tool that’s great for coding and reverse engineering. It’s also worth-mentioning for those that are not familiar with the Mac that you also have the powerful Vi text editor built-in for free on the command line. This editor has pretty much every feature I can imagine. Conveniently, you can also run scripts that you’re editing within BBEdit itself. It also has great automation features with Python-based text filters and the ability to run user-defined scripts on selected text or the entire document. Of course, it has all the usual things you’d expect in a good text editor from column selection and multiple cursors to syntax highlighting, cold folding and snippet management. You’ll only want to pay for it if you find the extra features are things you need (or you want to support the developer’s good work!).īBEdit has lots of useful features, like easy diffing, multi-file search, line processing, grep and project workspaces, to name a few. I say ‘polite’ because there are no nags or reminders once you’ve passed the initial “trial” stage during which time all the extra features are enabled. This Mac-specific text editor comes in a free version with no time restrictions, and offers a polite upsell for the extra features if you want them. Atom, Brackets, and Sublime are all available on Apple’s desktop platform, but if you haven’t picked a favorite yet, then I’d recommend BBEdit from Bare Bones software. Nothing causes more controversy than a debate on “which is the best text editor”, so let’s get this one out of the way early! If you already have a favorite text editor you’ll hopefully find it’s already available on macOS. The price and feature set are otherwise comparable. It’ll also run Windows and Linux guests just as well as VMWare. Although VMWare Fusion runs macOS guests perfectly well, I find Parallels has somewhat smoother graphics performance. If you’re primarily interested in running Mac VMs on a Mac host, my personal recommendation is Parallels. Oracle’s VirtualBox is a capable alternative if you’re looking for free, but has some serious limitations, such as no snapshot feature. VMWare is probably the most well-known commercial virtualization product out there, and of course it has a Mac version, called Fusion. If you’re planning on doing any kind of investigation into Mac malware, want to set up a lab for attacking Mac clients or simply want to investigate macOS internals with System Integrity Protection turned off, then you’re going to need to set up some VMs (Virtual Machines), and for that you need some good virtualization software. Most are free or inexpensive, and all are tools that I use on a regular basis. In this post, I cover some of the essential tools that will help you with security-related work on macOS, from text editors and process monitors to disassemblers and networking tools. Are you relatively new to the Mac platform and wondering what kind of tools are available for security research, malware analysis, reverse engineering and Mac infosec in general? While Macs share a heritage with Linux and thus have many common tools (although often with different implementations), there is also a whole bunch of macOS specific tools that you might not be aware of yet.
